About
An enthusiast's notes on the horse and the trades around it
The horse as an animal, and the working world built around it: vision and gait, the hoof, the studbook, the sale ring.
This is an independent blog. It is written by one person who reads registries, watches farriers work and sits through sales, and it covers four things: how the animal is built to see and to move, why the hoof sets the working calendar, what a studbook actually is, and how a sale ring operates as an institution.
It describes practices rather than teaching them. Where a figure or a date appears it comes from a published record — a registry volume, a breed society's own rules, a piece of documented genetics — and the guides link out to those records where they exist.
What it is not
There is no marketplace here and no instruction. The guides do not tell anybody how to keep, treat, train or acquire a horse; that is work for a vet, a farrier, an instructor or a lawyer, all of whom are better placed than a website.
